Dear Parent/Guardian,

Welcome to the 2019-20 LA Clippers Read to Achieve Minutes Challenge! This program was
designed to reinforce the importance of education and literacy to youth in our community. The goal of
Read to Achieve is to build a lifelong love of reading in young people by providing greater access to
books and technology while encouraging families and adults to read regularly with young children.

Your child has been registered for the program through their teacher and classroom. For the next
6-weeks (October 7 – November 15) they will track the minutes they spend reading and record them
on the Minutes Challenge Tracking Sheet provided from their teacher. At the end of the 6-week
period, please sign off on your child’s tracking sheet and they will turn it in to their teacher to be
collected with all of the tracking sheets from your school to be sent to the LA Clippers. The
elementary and middle schools that track the most minutes will receive a Clippers Reading Timeout at
their school this year, so we want to make sure your child’s minutes are counted!

All elementary school students that read a minimum of 1,000 minutes during the program and all
middle school students that read a minimum of 1,500 minutes during the program will receive a
special prize. All students that complete the program will receive a Certificate of Completion.
All students participating in the program are on a quest to become LA Clippers Student Reading AllStars.

The top student in the overall program (all participating schools combined), as well as the top
student in each grade level overall (Kindergarten to 8th Grade – all participating schools combined)
who log the most reading minutes will be drafted to the Clippers Student All-Star Reading Team and
be honored in an on-court presentation prior to a Clippers home game this season. Participating
schools and their students will also have the opportunity to win additional prizes including Clippers
game tickets, books, school supplies and t-shirts.

We look forward to your child participating in this year’s Read to Achieve Minutes Challenge and
working with your school this year!

Thank you,
LA Clippers
