How do I drop off?
How do I pick up?
Important details below by grade.
School starts this Monday. Our school office is busy preparing for our children. Please avoid calling the office so school staff have time to prepare for student’s arrival on Monday. Families attending the new student welcome on Thursday at 8:30am, there will be time to get your questions answered.
Covid Testing reminder:
Students can only attend school on Monday if they have a recent negative Covid test in the LAUSD system. If your student went to Roscomare last week and got a negative Covid test, your child will be approved in the system to begin school on Monday. They will be asked a series of questions before entering. Roscomare will have Covid testing (no appointment needed) this Friday, August 13 from 8:30-2:30… this is your last possible chance to get a negative Covid test in time to attend school on Monday.
The Drop off Pick Up Plan by grade. Find your child’s grade and please follow the directions. The drop off and pick up plan requires a community effort and most of all patience. Please expect the first two weeks will be a very slow process, with lots of traffic, and waiting. Leave yourself extra time for pick up and drop off and exhibit patience, our children are watching and learning. It will get easier after the first two weeks. Volunteers are still needed. Children of traffic volunteers will be checked onto campus early. Use this link to sign up to direct traffic. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F49A4A62FA4FB6-kiss
The exact drop off pick up plan by grade is outlined below. The goal is safety first, then efficiency. Please follow the directions below and the direction of staff and volunteers. When driving onto campus, for the safety of children, staff and parent volunteers, you may not use a cell phone or device and must drive slowly. Also, early in the school year your teachers will advise of the best way to reach them. Please do not try to have any conversation with staff or volunteers beyond a friendly wave during drop off and pick up this will allow the flow of drop off and pick-ups more efficiently.
All students (walk ups or drive ups) must present either a printed Daily Pass (preferred), a scanned image of their Daily Pass on their phone or be prepared to answer a few short COVID screening questions. Having a printed pass ready to hand over to our limited staff is the most efficient method.
Drop Off 7:30-8:10
All parents can choose to park along Roscomare Road and carefully walk their children to the front of the school where they will be cleared for entry by an aide. When parking, please be respectful of our neighbors and do not park in driveways or block driveways. The front lot of the school will be closed off with cones in the morning, no parking, no driving through, no car drop offs at the front of school-only walk ups.
During the first 2 days of school, all teachers will have signs to direct kids to their classrooms.
TK and Kindergarten (Day 1 & Day 2)- parents/guardians must walk their children to the Kindergarten gate at the front of the school. Students will check in with an aide before entering the yard. You must present a daily pass or answer screening questions. Parents will say goodbye at the Kindergarten gate and will not enter the yard with them. Another aide will supervise the children until their teachers pick them up and take them to their classrooms.
TK and Kindergarten (Day 3 and beyond) – parents/guardians may choose to either walk their children to the Kindergarten gate at the front of the school like they did on Day 1 and 2, or they may drive into the big yard (school gate on Roscomare Road) to drop them off. Our young students who are not yet ready to exit their car, should, instead, be walked to the Kindergarten gate. If dropping off in the big yard, parents must stay in their car at all times.
1st-5th – parents/guardians may either walk their children to the front main gate at the front of the school or may drive into the big yard to drop them off. Please walk your children to the front school gate if they have trouble getting out of the car without you. If dropping off in the big yard, parents must stay in their car at all times.
Students are Tardy After 8:15. The big yard gate will be locked at that time. Students arriving after 8:15 will need to be walked to the front of school, ring the front office bell, wait with a parent/guardian until a staff member is able to check them in. Please avoid this if possible, with limited staff at that time, this process could take a while.
Pick up After School
TK/K/1st grade students may only remain at school beyond 2:43 (or 1:43 on Tuesdays) if they are signed up for a STAR after school program.
2nd-5th Grade students may only remain at school if they are signed up for an after school program with STAR, Friends of Roscomare, or Beyond the Bell.
TK, Kindergarten and 1st Grade (joined by their older siblings) Pick up 2:43 (1:43 on Tuesdays) – students will wait with their TK/K/1st grade teacher at the front of the school in a class line and will be picked up using the drive thru at the front of school. Parents must be on time, and put their child’s full name, teacher name and classroom number very large on the front passenger side of their car windshield so the child’s name could be called for pick up.
2nd-5th Grade Pick up 2:43 (1:43 on Tuesdays) – parents will drive in and pick up students on the big yard through the yard gates on Roscomare Road unless they have a younger sibling in TK/K/1st, if so, refer to the pick-up details for TK/K/1st. Students will wait in grade sections on the big yard. Parents will put their child’s full name, teacher name and classroom number very large on the front passenger side of their car windshield so the child’s name could be called for pick up. Parents will drive thru the big yard and wait patiently for their child to be brought to their car.
4:10 pick up (3:10 on Tuesdays) – Front of School. This is only for students enrolled in a one-hour STAR class, Friends of Roscomare class, or the Beyond the Bell program – if your child is enrolled in a one-hour Star, Friends of Roscomare class, they should be picked up promptly at the front of the school on foot or by car at 4:10pm. A Star or FOR representative will bring them to the front of school.
5:10 pick up (4:10 on Tuesdays) – Front of School. This is only for students enrolled in the Friends of Roscomare musical theater program (students must be picked up on time), or the STAR and Beyond the Bell program.
5:50/6:00pm – Front of School. This is only for students enrolled in Star or Beyond the Bell programs. Parents must be on time as all remaining staff must leave campus at 6pm.
Right TURN Only
When you exit school either from the big yard or the front of school, you must make a right turn. No exceptions, even if no cars seem to be coming. We know most parents (including the one writing this) need to go left, but it causes traffic backups and accidents. Please make a right for the safety of our community… you can turn around further down the street.
Patience, Patience, Patience.
